Cave Spring Dry Riesling 2009

Appearance: The wine is clear and bright, medium minus lemon fading to a watery rim with fast moving legs and tears.

Nose: The clean wine has medium intensuity youthful aromas of lime, apple, pear, apricot and minerality.

Palate: The dry wine had medium plus acidity, (no tannin), medium body, medium minus alcohol, medium flavour intensity of apricot, grapefruit, lime zest, minerality, peach pit, apple, slight ginger and white pepper notes. The wine has a medium plus length, clean warming finish.

Conclusion: This is a good cool climate Riesling with a balance of fruit and acid and a supple mouthfeel.

Tasting Note

Appearance: The wine is clear medium minus lemon with moderate viscosity legs and tears.
Nose: The clean wine has medium plus intensity developing aromas of apple, pear drop, hazelnut, almond, yogurt,toast, smoke, honey and bees’ wax.
Palate: The dry wine has medium acidity, low clay-textured tannin, medium alcohol, medium plus oily body, medium plus intensity complex flavours of oxidized apple, hazelnut, marzipan, pear, pineapple, toast, clove and cinnamon.The wine has medium plus length on the clean, creamy, refreshing finish.
Conclusion: This is a very good Rioja blanco with a balance of fruit and structural acidity and well-integrated oak. Complex and intense, this is an expressive wine that can be enjoyed today or gain complexity over the next 2 to 3 years.
